We have ongoing concerns over the possibility of defective household appliances. Here are some handy hints for making sure your appliances are safe.

We urge you all to check:

  • That all your electrical appliances meet the relevant British Standards for that appliance. Be very wary of imported appliances which may not meet the safety requirements. Look for the British Standards “Kite Mark”.
  • That none of your appliances are not subject to any manufacturer’s recall due to suspected causes of fire in use (particularly fridges, freezers and clothes dryers)
  • That all your portable electrical appliances are properly maintained.
  • That any portable electrical appliances, their flexes and plugs, for damage before each use.
