Balcony and Terrace Safety

If items made from materials that will burn are put on balconies, they can cause a fire to spread around or up the outside of a building. Follow these steps to keep all our residents safe.

The image below contains an at-a-glance summary of the rules for using your balcony or terrace safely. For full details of the rules, please scroll down below the image.

Under the requirements of your lease we would remind you of maintaining the balconies attached to your apartment in a safe condition. Notwithstanding the recent replacement of the timber decking with a non-flammable material, the same requirements will apply to the items placed on the decking as described above.

To this end, you will please, ensure compliance with the following.

  • No barbecues on balconies or terraces.
  • No drying laundry on balconies or terraces.
  • No storage on balconies or terraces.
  • No readily combustible furniture or other items on balconies or terraces. (For example, upholstery/cushions, plastic furniture, or deckchairs with combustible fabrics should be avoided. Metal chairs/tables would be acceptable.)
  • No smoking on the balconies or terraces.
